Devoción was founded 2006 in Colombia to produce the freshest coffee imaginable — roasting provides only half of coffee’s flavor, while mere freshness of the beans does the rest of the work. And yet, most coffee beans sit around for months, losing flavor every day. That’s why the Devoción team does everything short of picking the cherry, and does it faster than anyone else — we hand-select our 1,000+ farm partners, dry-mill at our Bogotá facility, control the export process, and roast in Brooklyn.

In order to continue our mission of providing the freshest Colombian coffee, protecting the origin is fundamental. That is where the essence, history, and identity of each cup reside. This is why we have designed a sustainability strategy based on these pillars: environmental, social, governance, where the B Corp system plays a fundamental role, not only protecting but regenerating the origin. The approach proposed by the B Corp system seeks to strengthen the reputation and credibility of our company and is essential in investment decision-making, evolution, and strategy. Among the main activities we propose are the identification and restoration of strategic ecosystems, the promotion of coffee culture through a curriculum focusing on different areas of the industry directed towards the new generations of coffee growers, and the measurement and reduction of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, among others.
Climate Change: A Threat to Coffee
Unfortunately, climate change represents a serious threat to the future of coffee. Rising temperatures and changes in rainfall patterns are putting coffee production at risk worldwide. Climate change could make coffee disappear from most producing countries. A recent study reveals that even in moderate scenarios, the world could lose 50% of its land suitable for coffee cultivation.
This is particularly concerning for countries like Brazil and Colombia, the main producers, which could experience a drastic reduction in suitable land. The study predicts a 73–88% reduction in these areas by 2050, surpassing previous estimates. The loss of land suitable for coffee could have a significant impact on the global economy and on the communities that depend on this crop. It is essential to take urgent measures to mitigate climate change and protect coffee production worldwide. In Colombia, coffee generates 730,000 direct jobs and is positioned as the main source of rural employment, in addition to contributing 15% to the agricultural GDP.
Being a B Corp: A Commitment to Sustainability
Beyond coffee production, Devoción has become a B Corp certified company, which means that we are committed to the highest standards of social and environmental impact. We believe that companies have the power to generate positive change in the world, and that is why we integrate sustainability into all aspects of our business. Additionally, we have joined the international movement that seeks to create an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system for all people and for the planet. Being a B Corp company means that we not only seek economic profitability, but also aim to have a positive impact on each dimension of our operations. Devoción, by being certified, has committed to making decisions considering the consequences of its actions in the community and the environment in the long term. We evaluate our impact, identify where we can improve, and make the necessary changes through the B Impact Assessment.
