MIROLINDO - WOMEN IN COFFEE | Devoción

Producer: Nelly Alape

Notes: Tart Cherry, Blackberry, Plum, Sugar Cane

Variety: Castillo

Region: Tolima

Altitude: 1,800 m

Two hours off the beaten path from the nearest town, lifelong coffee producer Nelly Alape and her husband’s farm is located deep in the canyons of Tolima, Colombia. Despite the region being hit hard by years of civil conflict, they have been an important partner for Devoción, consistently producing excellent coffees for the past 6 years.

When asked what makes her coffee special, Nelly credits the farm workers, whom she oversees on their 8 hectare farm. By paying them above average to ensure only the ripest cherries are picked, the investment in her staff produces a high return by yielding only the highest quality coffees she can sell for a premium. Named after the first lot of land Nelly bought with her husband 37 years ago, Mirolindo is a bright and fruity coffee with notes of tart cherries, blackberries, and plum, and a sugar cane sweetness that balances out the acidity.
